What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a branch of Psychotherapy aimed at treating a range of moderate-severe anxiety and depression disorders.

Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) works by helping a person identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are interconnected and can serve to maintain vicious cycles of anxiety and depression.

I can help you develop new, more helpful ways of thinking and behaving via a range of interventions. CBT involves a structured approach, with specific goals and tasks to be completed between sessions. It is usually time-limited, with a typical course of treatment lasting between 8-20 sessions.

CBT can help with the following problems:

  • Depression and Low Mood
  • Stress, Anxiety and/or Life Adjustments
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Health Anxiety
  • Panic Attacks
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Specific Phobias
  • Body Focused Repetitive Disorders
  • Social Anxiety
  • Disordered Eating and Body Dysmorphia
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Complex Trauma and Attachment Issues

I will work with you to understand your specific needs and goals for therapy, and will tailor my approach accordingly. It is important that you feel safe and comfortable so you feel free to express yourself, be vulnerable and open to explore difficult emotions. I can provide this environment or you. A culturally sensitive and responsive approach is crucial for the therapy to be effective, therefore, it is important for me to consider how your cultural, social and economic background might influence your experiences and perspectives. You can be assured that I will explore the intersection between these factors, how they contribute to the problem and how they can best be managed.
